Club Coaches
Our dedicated Club Coaches are NCCP (National Coaching Certification Program) and Skate Canada certified.
The CanSkate and PreSTAR programs receive 100% club coached instruction. All of our Club Coaches coach at this level.
The STAR programs include 15 or 30 minute club-coached group lessons (depending on the session). Private lessons are available in addition to the group instruction at an additional fee. It is recommended that you take the time to review the coach profiles below and contact a coach directly to make arrangements for private lessons.

Karen is an experienced coach who has worked with skaters of all levels over her coaching career. She works collaboratively with skaters and their parents to ensure that the skaters work towards their personal goals, while helping them realize and maximize their potential.
Her career/coaching highlights include having skaters compete at international events, as well as being the coach of two national champions.
Over 45 years of coaching experience /Coaching all levels up to Senior Competitive (Podium Pathway)

Karen is available to coach all programs at the Capital City Skating Club. She believes that her genuine caring, patience and expertise will contribute to a positive skating experience for you and/or your skater.
Gwen Smith-Walsh (she/her)

Gwen is an experienced coach and proud skating mom of a former competitive skater. Her
philosophy is to help each skater reach their potential while working within budgets and desires to
be the best we can be. A vital part of her coaching is mental training and techniques to assist in
sport development. Believes combining off-ice training with on ice training is key to development
for fast-tracking results. Both private and small group lessons are available. Gwen also works
closely with various coaches to be part of a team philosophy.
Level 3 coach, National Coaching Certification level, Level 4 tasks, Special Olympics Coach
Over 40 years of coaching experience including choreography for all skating levels.

Team Kelsey & Brenda
Kelsey and Brenda follow a Team Directed coaching model. We work together to co-plan and direct our skaters’ development in all areas. As part of our coaching package, skaters receive small group and private lessons from both of us, as well as off-ice training to maximize their development. We believe that this approach encourages team building, capitalizes on our coaching strengths, allows for more coach directed time, and enables more perspectives to contribute to the skaters coaching plan. Team work makes the dream work!
